Blog – Days 16 & 17 – There’s a church out there for me! Yeah!!! The Evangelical Covenant Church is open to interpretation of Scripture

I hope you’re having a wonderful day!  I am so encouraged.  I was on the website www.biblegateway.com and it led me to Pastor Craig Groeschel who has written the book, “Hope in the Dark.”  Craig started www.life.church which has several locations in the U.S. and an online church.  His church is part of the Evangelical Covenant Church. If you have Biblical views that are not accepted by some churches, this could be the church for you.  Verses like “I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen.  I must bring them also.  They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd,” (John 10:16) can be interpreted in different ways.  As long as your interpretation is biblical, this church will accept your interpretation. This is what the Evangelical Covenant Church says about itself: “What makes the Covenant unique from other denominations is the fact that while it strongly affirms the clear teaching of the Word of God, it allows believers the personal freedom to have varying interpretations on theological issues that are not clearly presented in the Scripture.”  I love it.  I also love the fact that this church is trying to unite all believers as God wants us to be one body in Christ.

I believe we will all get a chance to know the wonderful love of our triune God.  Hopefully, you will meet him in this lifetime so that you can go through life with peace and purpose.  But if not, I believe that we will all meet Jesus and our judgment.  At that time, we will know his incredible love because we will meet Him face to face.  There is only one Bible verse that contradicts this belief (though indirectly), but it is in the Old Testament.  It is before Jesus came to save us and the people who lived prior to his lifetime.  Many churches believe that you need a water baptism to be saved.  I believe that it is the baptism of the Holy Spirit that Jesus gives to us when we announce our belief in Him that is required to be saved.  But the Bible does not specify which type of baptism is required.  (I do believe that God wants us to have a water baptism like Jesus had.)

If you are discouraged, read a book for encouragement.  Try “Hope in the Dark” by Craig Groeschel or “The End of Me” by Kyle Idleman.  I am reading the latter right now, and I highly recommend it.

  1. When we first moved to Indiana there was a Bible study on TV that ministers of different faiths participated in. It was pretty interesting and I enjoyed watching it. One thing that happened frequently was the difference in opinion on scripture. I believe the Bible should be open to interpretation. I learned a lot listening to the panel discussions.

    1. You are right! And we should all have open minds to that as long as it doesn’t disagree with other scripture! I am always interested in good media Bible Studies, so if any of my readers has an on-line bible Study or a television program with Bible Study that they particularly enjoy, please share!
