And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there. I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. (Acts 20:22-24)
The Holy Spirit urged Paul to go to Jerusalem but didn’t promise him safety. Yet he was anxious to go because he considered his life worthless if wasn’t bringing people to Jesus. Proving to Jews that Jesus was their Messiah was especially important to Him.
Paul didn’t marry and had no children. The Bible mentions he had a sister, a nephew, and more distant relatives who weren’t dependent on him, so he gave God one hundred percent.
Like Paul, we have free will to serve or not serve God. For most in the U.S., we won’t have to undergo prison and hardships or give up our safety to follow Jesus. It is easier for us to follow Him than it was for Paul, yet many Christians choose not to. Most of us leave Him periodically.
Father, I praise You for sending me a Savior. You know every situation I will encounter and have cleared a path for my journey to the best possible life. Help me follow Jesus and give me the strength, power, and wisdom of Your Spirit as I travel down that path. I understand that dangers and problems will hinder my journey, but I know you will keep your promise to shepherd me through them. Help me finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me. I pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
God doesn’t expect us to be perfect. He never said that life would be problem free. Most of us encounter more than our fair share of difficulties to figure out. I continue to pray for you and your situation. God has a way of allowing things to turn out for the best. Blessings and I love you!
