While Paul was waiting for them (Silas and Timothy) in Athens, he was greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols. So he reasoned in the synagogue with both Jews and God-fearing Greeks, as well as in the marketplace day by day with those who happened to be there. (Acts 17:16-17)
When I went to my first Florida Christian Writers Conference in 2019, I realized I didn’t write well enough to get a book published. I felt out of place and barely spoke to anyone. I skipped the awards ceremony because there wasn’t an empty chair beside someone I knew. I felt alone.
Paul was also alone in Athens and upset that people worshipped idols. He wanted everyone to know God’s love, but what could one man do? Philosophers in the marketplace spoke their points of view, so Paul mingled with them and struck up conversations about Jesus. He couldn’t make a difference alone, but with the power of the Holy Spirit working through him, a church was established.
We, too, can make a difference with the power of the Holy Spirit. It is God’s will for Paul to plant churches and God’s will for me to show His love through my novel, Denial of the Enemy. He wants you to do something also. His will for you may require education, training, and others He happens to put in your life.
This week when I attend the Florida Christian Writers Conference, I will let the Holy Spirit guide me to the people God has sent to help me get my book published. I will let His power work through me to love and help others so His will can be accomplished through me.
I pray you also will let the Holy Spirit guide you and give you God’s power to do amazing things. Like Paul, you can accomplish much through the Holy spirit.
Father God, I praise you for sending me the love, wisdom, and power of Your Holy Spirit. Let me have faith like Paul and know that I’m never alone. I can accomplish a lot with Your power and with people who happen to be with me because you’ve placed them in my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
