Daily Devotional Acts 17:26-27a – What is God’s desire? – Free online Bible study – Commentary in easy English – Day 604

“From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him. (Acts 17:26-27a)

When I was a child, I thought God was in heaven tending to matters and people that were more important than me. In elementary school, I was painfully shy. The other children thought I wanted to be alone because I didn’t speak unless spoken to. At home I was expected to entertain myself. I often felt abandoned and didn’t realize God’s Spirit wafted in the air I breathed, waiting for an invitation to be my closest friend. God is not a deity who observes from heaven and laughs at our mistakes. He didn’t create us to abandon us.

In our diversity, we all have common ground, our great, great, great…grandfather, Adam. I believe He was a caveman and that through evolution, God made everyone different. God set us in boundaries to be comforted by those who most understood us, but God knew we would intermingle. There is strength in diversity—more ideas to create and solve problems.

Unfortunately, apart from God, we wallow in our differences. Instead of striving to be unified to achieve His purpose—that all reach out for Him and find Him—we create problems and strife.

If we pay attention to history and the teachings of Jesus, we’ll find God the easy way. If not, God will create emptiness and strife within us so we’ll seek a savior. He doesn’t want us to be miserable. He loves us so much He’ll use any means necessary to draw us to Him.

If you’re lonely or need a savior, seek Jesus. It is His desire that you’ll find Him because He loves you.

Father God, I praise You for drawing me into Your family. Help me see the good in every person as You do and love them so they’ll want to come into Your flock. Help my diversity bring solutions instead of problems. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

  1. God’s desire is to have a personal relationship with all of his children. Through prayer my relationship with God is growing stronger. I never realized, until we talked about it, that we could develop such a close relationship to God. It is comforting and peaceful to know that God is watching out for us. Love you, Sis! Praying for all of us today, your family and mine.
