Daily Devotional Acts 17:22-23 – How well do you know God? – Free Online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 602

Then Paul stood before the meeting of the Areopagus and said: “People of Athens! I can see you are very religious in all things. As I was going through your city, I saw the objects you worship. I found an altar that had these words written on it: TO A GOD WHO IS NOT KNOWN. You worship a god that you don’t know, and this is the God I am telling you about! (Acts 17:22-23)

Last week, I went to the Florida Christian Writer’s Conference. Bill Myers, author of the book and DVD series, McGee and Me, was the keynote speaker. His movie, Secret Agent Dingledorf and His Trusty Dog Splat, was released this year.

Bill challenged us to wake up every morning and tell God you’ll say, “yes,” to all his requests. I believe this action will change my life as it did Bill’s. Hearing God’s desires and following them requires the loving bond formed by reading His word, praying, and listening. It requires time but gives hope.

God will send us on a fascinating journey as He did Paul. He will place people in our lives to love. When we love and compliment as Paul did and not chastise people for their wrong beliefs, people will begin experiencing God.

God is love. Love is patient and kind. It is not arrogant or rude and doesn’t keep a record of wrongs. Love believes and hopes that God will change people and circumstances and rejoices in that truth.

If you worship a god you don’t know, I urge you to seek God by studying the Bible and talking and listening to Him throughout the day. When you pursue Him, He’ll reward you with his refuge and love. When you let Him guide you and say, “yes” to all His requests, your life will become adventurous and have purpose.

Father God, I praise You for creating me with a purpose. I will say, “yes,” to all Your requests. Help me listen and discern them. Lord I seek you with all my heart. Fulfill your promise that You’ll make Yourself known to me.

  1. I am not sure how well I know God. That was my first thought when I read the title. I feel like I may have the basics down but there is always room for improvement and doing better. Today I have concentrated on being grateful that I wasn’t hurt yesterday. I am also concentrating on praying about the beauty that surrounds me. It’s God’s art, and I am grateful.

    1. I too am thankful you weren’t hurt worse and thankful I didn’t break my wrist so I can type devotions. God is good! None of us our sure of how well we know God but know it will be awesome and overwhelming to meet Him face to face.
