While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Simon, three men are looking for you. So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.” Peter went down and said to the men, “I’m the one you’re looking for. Why have you come?” The men replied, “We have come from Cornelius the centurion. He is a good man who worships God, who is respected by all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to ask you to come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say.” Then Peter invited the men into the house to be his guests. (Acts 10:19-23)
I was raised in a Methodist Church not knowing I could have a personal relationship with God through Jesus. I prayed to and respected God, but I felt like a grasshopper in comparison. With billions of people on earth, why would He care about me?
Cornelius is a good person, worships God, and is well-respected, but that isn’t enough to become close to God. Like me, growing up, he feels far from God and craves His love. He needs to know that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and that he can be close to God through Jesus. Hence, God arranged for angels, visions, and coincidences so Cornelius and Peter would meet and have fellowship for the purpose of Cornelius learning about Jesus.
Heavenly Father, I praise you for making Your Son my High Priest. He forgives me when I ask and connects me to You. I thank you for caring, wanting to hear my feelings, loving me, and sending me gifts. Help me pass Your love to others. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
