The following day he (Peter) arrived in Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends. As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence. But Peter made him get up. “Stand up,” he said, “I am only a man myself.”
Cornelius craved a relationship with God, so I can imagine his excitement when Peter arrived. But when Cornelius falls at Peter’s feet, Peter teaches us that showing reverence to a human is wrong. We should only bow down to God.
When we tolerate someone who demands reverence, we’re putting that person on God’s throne. No one should ask to intercede on our behalf when we feel the need to repent. Jesus sacrificed himself on the cross to be our High Priest. He connects us directly to God.
Peter never would’ve asked anyone to bow their head and kiss a papal ring. We should run from a church that has a leader who puts him or herself on God’s throne because God won’t be in that church. God wants the humble to lead us to Himself.
Father God, I praise you for your grace and mercy. I’m sorry that I wasn’t loving all day. Keep changing me Lord. I pray for church leaders. Make them humble like you did Peter. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

Thank you for your encouragement and coming to my website. Isn’t it wonderful that Jesus is our high priest and we can pray directly to God through Jesus. I prayed for you and your family today and hope you know how wide and long and high and deep God’s love is for you. Blessings, Jody
