Daily Devotional Luke 24:25b-27 – How does Jesus speak to us? – Road to Emmaus, Part 4 – Online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 426

(Jesus said) “And how slow (you are) to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory? And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.” (Luke 24:25b-27)

Yesterday, I was worried with many questions. Jesus, told me through Scripture. “How foolish you are.” It is human nature to worry, so we can’t avoid being foolish. Though the Word tells us we can’t add a single hour to our lives by worrying, common sense also tells us worrying is foolish. I, therefore, felt the need to stop worrying so I diverted my worries by cleaning the refrigerator. It took me all afternoon, not because my refrigerator was totally caked with dirt but because I continued to worry. I needed the comfort Jesus provides.

Jesus isn’t with us physically any longer but Word, is one of His many names. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:1, John 1:14) So Jesus refers Cleopas and us to the Word, the Scriptures.

Jesus had to suffer not only because he took all mankind’s sins but to fulfill prophecy. Isaiah 53 tells us “by His stripes we are healed.” No doubt he also told Cleopas of David’s prophecy in Psalm 22:16-19: “Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce my hands and my feet. All my bones are on display; people stare and gloat over me. They divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment. But you, Lord, do not be far from me. You are my strength; come quickly to help me.”

Yesterday, while I worried and cleaned, I also prayed and read the Word. God came quickly to help me, answering many of my questions through doctors, family, the internet, and His Word. Today, I’m feeling much better, once again able to write. I feel certain my family members will recover over time. I give God the glory. I thank Him for the grace and truth in His Word.

Dearest Heavenly Father, I praise you for the grace and truth available in Your Word. I thank you for the Word to provide me with comfort in my pain and answers to life’s tough questions. Give me the power of Your Holy Spirit to continue my journey with you to Emmaus and beyond as I learn, help others, and do Your will. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

  1. It is human nature to worry. We know it doesn’t do any good to worry and worry won’t change a thing. Prayer changes things that happen in our life. Being logical about worry doesn’t change the fact that humans worry. It is all a process and Jesus walks with us if we ask Him too. His Word gives us comfort and peace.

    1. Thank you for your comment. Very well said. I think we worry a lot less when we trust Jesus. I love reading my Bible and feel so much better when I do. I’m praying for you. Blessings, Jody
