Daily Devotional Luke 24:28-29 – Does Jesus love me? – Do I need Jesus in my life? – The Road to Emmaus, Part 5 – Online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 427

As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them. (Luke 24:28-29)

Once we understand from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Lamb of God who came to set us free from sin to live with joy in communion with God and Himself, we have the choice of letting him walk farther from us or urging Him strongly to stay in our lives. When we urge Jesus to stay, He will.

Most of us could be one incident away from depression or dysfunctional addiction. Some of us have already crossed the line. Maybe we believe in God and Jesus as deities in heaven that are dealing with a dysfunctional world and don’t have time for us, but that’s not what the Scriptures tell us. Perhaps we don’t believe in Satan or the enemy who want to keep us from knowing Jesus. The enemy doesn’t want us to believe he’s real. Scripture tells us the enemy is real. Jesus tells us on the Road to Emmaus that it’s important to know and believe Scripture.

Did you know that Jesus prayed for you personally to love Him because He loves you? You will find this prayer in John 17:21-26. Insert your name into the blanks and hear Jesus pray for you. I hope His prayer urges you to ask Him to stay with you, to be in you.

Father, just as you are in me and I am in you, may _____ also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given ______ the glory that you gave me, that ______ may be one (in us) as we are one: I in ______ and you in me. May _____ be brought to complete unity (with us) to let the world know that you sent me and have loved _____ even as you have loved me. Father, I want ______ to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and ______ knows you have sent me. I have made you known to _____ and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in ______ and that I myself may be in ______.”

  1. I feel that my relationship with Jesus is growing more and more personal. However, sometimes I forget to take Jesus with me. I am working on being more faithful. I need to remember to take him with me even when I am happy and joyous. He shares my sadness and he shares my joy.
