Daily Devotional Luke 14:10-11 – The Marriage Supper of the Lamb – Online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 302

“But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (Luke 14:10-11)

My husband and I were at a wedding looking for our nametags. We started at the back tables and moved forward. Not finding our names, we thought the bride forgot us. But soon she came and told us she placed us with the groom’s family. We hadn’t looked in the front of the room. We felt honored.

We are all invited now to the marriage supper of the lamb. It will be held after Jesus comes to earth again to gather his sheep. Many invitations are sent out, but few choose to respond by repenting and wanting Him as their savior. Only those who respond will be immediately invited to heaven. Jesus asks that those who respond should take the lowest place. He says that when we humble ourselves, He will honor us by escorting us to a better place.

God uses the humble. When the humble perform mighty deeds with the power of the Holy Spirit, the credit is given to God. He will be lifted up, and He will lift the humble with Him.

Dearest Heavenly Father, Thank you for Your love and invitation to the marriage supper of the lamb. I pray my family and friends will respond to Your invitation. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

  1. I guess this makes a bit more sense to me than devotion 301, but I still have questions. We will all take our seats in the back. If we accept Jesus as our Savior, repent our sins and we are humble he will move us forward from the back of the room? My question is, how do you get to heaven without doing this to begin with. Why are some honored more than others. Isn’t that being judgemental?

    1. Jesus wants us to be humble. We receive rewards in heaven for what we do on earth. We need to accept Jesus as our Savior before we get to heaven, but God wants us to be humble once we get there.
