Day 13 – Romans 3:11-20 – September 10, 2018

No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God.  All have turned away; all have become useless.  No one does good, not a single one.  Their talk is foul, like the stench from an open grave.  Their tongues are filled with lies.  Snake venom drips from their lips.  Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.  They rush to commit murder.  Destruction and misery always follow them.  They don’t know where to find peace.  They have no fear of God at all.  (Romans 3:11-20)

I’m sure this doesn’t describe you!  But if we listen to the news and some of our coworkers, this is what we see!  If you don’t use the “F” bomb, you stick out like a sore thumb.  I am told that it feels good to say it and that no other word will do.  When that word is spoken around me, I say nothing because I feel that not using it is a good enough example, and scolding someone doesn’t spread God’s love.  But to my loved ones I say, “You’re better than that,” because they are; we all are.  We were made perfectly by God.  Certainly, we don’t all rush out to commit murder, but many do.  And we vote for people who believe in abortion.  Roe v. Wade is the law of the land and considered untouchable.  Even a conservative judge won’t go there because it’s political suicide in our “Nation under God.” But we regret abortion; we regret murder, and for those of us who haven’t murdered, we all regret something we’ve said.  But the good news is that when we believe in Jesus and repent, God will forgive our harsh words and, yes, even murder.

I’m told that most women who have an abortion regret it sometime during their life. Norma McCorvey (alias Jane Roe in Roe v. Wade) regretted participating in Roe v. Wade even though she never had an abortion.  McCorvey led a troubled life. She committed crimes so she would be taken from her mother, a violent alcoholic. Destruction and misery followed her until she became a Christian and found God’s peace.  She unsuccessfully sought to have Roe v. Wade overturned and worked for Operation Rescue (an anti-abortion group).  We are silly to think that humans can dispose of what God has made.  Many forgiven women will be reunited with their aborted babies in heaven.

  1. You are helping me think about the examples we set for others. It is so easy, in anger and hurt, to use words that we shouldn’t. For some people it is just an everyday word and it isn’t even used in anger. You hear it everywhere, your workplace, in restaurants, while shopping. The tongue can be a wicked instrument, and I will try and do better.

We are made to feel guilty if we do not think that abortion is part of woman’s rights. To me, God has been taken out of this equation. No one can tell someone what to do, so the right is always there. I have a friend who is quite liberal and a Christian and strongly believes in abortion. When I see some of her posts I shudder. I have often wondered if I should comment and give another point of view. I always feel that my point of view would not be appreciated.

    1. Dear Pam, It is always good to stick up for God in a loving manner. Always respond in love i.e., “I am so thankful to have you as a friend and I know you are a wonderful Christian, but I feel like I need to give my point of view also. Jesus gave His life for us. As women we have the wonderful choice to give only nine months for a life to grow inside of us. We then have the choice to give the baby up for adoption if we don’t want him or her. That is a priceless gift for a woman who cannot conceive. Most women who have abortions regret that choice later on. I believe that we cannot kill what God has given life to and that aborted babies will be waiting for their mothers and fathers in heaven.” It is always good to give a Christian a tad to think about when you believe their views differ from the Bible to make them think. One of my Bible Study teachers did that to me a couple of weeks ago, and I was grateful for his comment. His comment changed my mind on how I felt on the subject of God’s sovereignty.

  2. Dear Jody,
I agree 100% on your point of view. I do believe that women do have the right of choice but you are right, those who make the choice to abort often regret what they did. I am against abortion and feel that sometimes it is used a form of birth control. I don’t understand it at all but feel that even a gentle opinion is not welcomed by the more liberal mindset.

    1. Don’t forget. God welcomes your opinion when it agrees with His Word when your opinion is given in love. He loves when you stick up for Him!
