So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. (Galatians 5:16-18)
You are free to do whatever you want, but this Scripture says you are not to use your freedom to do whatever you want because God has planned every step of your life, including the coincidences where you meet people and acquire things you’ll need to fulfill your dreams.
Each of us has a thorn in our side: anger, depression, anxiety, or addiction, the desires of our flesh, which can only be removed by letting the Spirit lead us. Jesus said, “It is the Spirit who gives life. The flesh is no help at all.” (John 6:63)
So how do you walk by the Spirit? First, let the Spirit know that you need help and have faith that the Spirit will assist you. Then pray for the Spirit to unite with your spirit because “the one who joins with the Lord [in spiritual union] is one spirit with the Lord. (1 Corinthians 6:17)
When our spirits are united with the Lord’s, our minds will “be filled with whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, whatever is excellent, whatever is worthy of praise.” (Philippians 4:8) Finally, thank God that you’re not following the desires of the flesh which are contrary to the desires of the Spirit, and be joyful that God’s giving you the best life.
Father, I praise you for giving me my best life when I team up with you. Guide all my steps, so I’ll be happy and won’t always have a thorn in my side. Let your Spirit unite with mine so you can renew my thinking. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
I need to pray hard about the situation in my house. I feel so negative and I think that is because I do not feel that my thoughts are aligned with the spirit. Why do I feel angry, and upset so much of the time? It hurts me and my health. I look for every fault instead of looking for the things that I should appreciate. There are so many things that happen in this house that should be appreciated and nurtured. I need to pray and let the spirit take me to a place of peace instead of focusing on the negative. I believe that I can do better with God’s help and make better decisions for me and my family. I can be led to a place of peace if I allow God to take me there. I need to remember that God has planned my life.
