You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command. “Love your neighbor as yourself.” If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. (Galatians 5:13-15)
This morning my calendar is open. I’m free to do anything. I think about how I can best serve God. I set aside time for prayer and praise. think about how to best serve my husband and family—perhaps just a text to show my love. I set aside time to edit my novel, a story that showcases God’s love.
Paul says in 1 Corinthians 10:23: “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive.
Do you choose to work in an atmosphere you enjoy or do you dread going to work every day? Do you spend every weekend doing chores or do you take time to love and serve others?
God calls us to freedom. When we use that freedom to love and serve others, we don’t have to worry about breaking laws. When we use our freedom to bite and devour someone, we will destroy one another.
Father, I love you and praise you for your grace and freedom. Guide me to someone who needs your love and work through me to be their miracle. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Good devotion! Again, I feel that it is speaking to me. If you bite and destroy each other, you will be destroyed by each other. My household is a bit turbulent for the last couple of weeks. I don’t want it this way, but I feel that I have no choice but to take a stand. I’m not so sure what God thinks of all this but in my heart I believe that I am doing the right thing. So, I have asked, “Father, am I doing the right thing?” If it is my right/freedom to do what I feel is best in my own house?
I don’t know what is going on in your household. Of course, you have the right to set rules in your house and take a stand. Rules can and should be set in a nonturbulent manner, but you can’t control how the rules are received. I’m sorry you are having troubles. I prayed for you this morning. Love you, Jody
