Before the coming of this faith, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed. So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian. (Galatians 3:23-24)
I’ve only known one person, my daughter’s friend, who has shared her experience of being held in custody and locked up. Even though she had cellmates, she barely conversed. Guilt shamed her, and she had no one to trust. She sat alone on her cot, hardly eating the inedible meals.
Laws label us incompetent because we can’t keep them. When we try, they rule us like a wicked stepmother. I’m so grateful that Jesus replaced the multitude of Jewish laws with one: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Luke 10:27)
We are incapable of keeping that law of love continually, but our loving Father forgives when we put our faith in Jesus.
If you’re imprisoned by the law, ask Jesus to save you. He’ll set you free.
Father, the world expects too much of me. I praise you for love that forgives when I fail and provides green pastures to restore my soul. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
I think that most, if not all people have unreasonable expectations that can not be met. Sometimes expectations have to do with faith and sometimes life. We are so fortunate to have a loving God who forgives us and protects us.

The expectations that have to do with faith, usually turn out well. The expectations we have for life, sometimes do not go well. But God helps us through, and the hard times usually teach a lesson. My grandson’s first birthday party was a lot of fun!
