SOAP Devotional Galatians 1:13-16 – How does God set me apart from my mother’s womb? – Free online Bible study – Commentary in easy English – Day 710

For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it. I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, my immediate response was not to consult any human being. (Galatians 1:13-16)

As a young woman, newly divorced, I was shunned by Christian friends who no longer loved me. I had broken a Christian law, and they and God were done with me. I spiraled into depression until God revealed his heart to me. Not wanting anyone else to experience the dark times I went through, I want others to know how much God loves them and help them deepen their relationship with God by studying his word. That’s the purpose of my blog.

God sets us apart from our mothers’ wombs with different experiences, good and bad, to give us a heart for certain people. We can’t completely understand drug addiction and homelessness until we’ve been there. A person who has escaped those situations through God’s power is best equipped to help.

Paul’s Roman father and his persecution of believers gave Paul a heart for the Gentiles. God groomed and chose him to minister to them.

What experiences have you survived? Whom do you have a heart for? Let God reveal his Holy Spirit in you to those people. With God’s power, you’ll make an impact.

Father, I praise you for guiding me through hard times, so I have empathy for people experiencing similar situations. Give me someone to minister and show your love to. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

  1. I have been reading trying to find a good explanation for the verse, But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb? I really don’t understand what it means. I told you when you were thinking about divorce, God would not want you to be unhappy your whole life, just to say you didn’t break one of God’s laws. It is what you needed to do. My feeling is that if your friends turned their backs on you, especially in your time of stress and need, they weren’t very good friends. The rules cause conflict and the less rules, the better.

    1. It could be better written. the New Century Version of the Bible translates it better: “But God had special plans for me and set me apart for his work even before I was born.” Rules do cause conflict because a lot of us humans think it is our job to impose rules on others. Love you. Blessings and hugs!

    1. Thank you for coming to my website and for your encouragement. I hope you come back and know how much God loves you. I prayed for you. Blessings, Jody
