SOAP Devotional Acts 28:25-28 – Does a relationship with God require change? – Free online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 705

They disagreed among themselves and began to leave after Paul made this final statement: “The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your ancestors when he said through Isaiah the prophet: “Go to this people and say, ‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise, they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.’ Therefore, I want you to know that God’s salvation has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will listen!” (Acts 28:25-28)

I want a deeper relationship with God through Jesus, but it requires spending more time in prayer, reading the Bible, and sometimes discernment of my lifestyle. If I don’t want to change, I’ll close my ears and eyes to God. My heart will become calloused, and I’ll miss God’s healing.

For those who believe in Jesus and have faith that God heals because he has healed us in the past, it is difficult to understand why the Jews don’t see and hear what their prophets told them about Jesus and how perfectly he fulfilled prophecy. But how often has God nudged us to show favor to someone or to stop what we’re doing and do something else? We ignore him because we’re busy or don’t want to change, and we miss his blessing and healing.

This is Paul’s last attempt at telling the Jews about Jesus. I feel sad that many generations of Jews have lived without Jesus’ help. Their failure to change has prevented them from receiving Jesus’ blessings: forgiveness, healing, favor, and grace.

Father, I praise you for renewing my mind as our relationship deepens. Nudge me and help me follow your will that leads to pursuing my dreams. Help me not to miss any of your blessings. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

  1. Many Jews did convert at the time Paul was preaching about Jesus. The start of Christianity. Jesus preached and taught and ultimately lost his life for His beliefs, even though it was all in God’s plan. The Jews adamantly do not believe that Jesus is our savior. Was that part of God’s plan too. Many times, I too, have a hard time with change, because usually it is time consuming and involves a lot of extra thought and searching our mind and soul. Yes, I do believe that God nudges us and we choose to ignore. It is hard to take the time to change.

    1. Yes, the Jews not believing Jesus is their savior is part of God’s plan, as stated in Romans 11:25: “I want you to understand this mystery, dear brothers and sisters, so that you will not feel proud about yourselves. Some of the people of Israel have hard hearts, but this will last only until the full number of Gentiles comes to Christ.” Change is difficult. It requires a lot of prayers, but, as you know, it is well worth the time spent.
