SOAP Daily Devotional Acts 26:1-8 – Does Jesus provide hope? – Free online Bible study – Commentary in easy English – Day 682

So Paul motioned with his hand and began his defense. “King Agrippa, I consider myself fortunate to stand before you today as I make my defense against all the accusations of the Jews, and especially so because you are well acquainted with all the Jewish customs and controversies. Therefore, I beg you to listen to me patiently. The Jewish people all know the way I have lived ever since I was a child, from the beginning of my life in my own country, and also in Jerusalem. They have known me for a long time and can testify, if they are willing, that I conformed to the strictest sect of our religion, living as a Pharisee. And now it is because of my hope in what God has promised our ancestors that I am on trial today. This is the promise our twelve tribes are hoping to see fulfilled as they earnestly serve God day and night. King Agrippa, it is because of this hope that these Jews are accusing me. Why should any of you consider it incredible that God raises the dead? (Acts 26:1-8)

Paul has an opportunity to speak to the upper echelon of society in a long speech. He isn’t bitter toward his accusers. As a former well-known Pharisee, he was one of them, serving God day and night. Paul uses the opportunity to relay his hope that God raises the dead. We will live forever bathed in love from God, friends, and family. We don’t have to wait for a future Messiah—we can receive salvation now.

How much different are we from our accusers and lawbreakers? We were all formed in our mother’s womb with God’s love, but we were born into different families. We have hope that most offenders do not. Proverbs 24:20 says, “An evil person has nothing to hope for; the flame of the wicked will be put out.”

So one of the most important things we can do is breathe hope into our children and grandchildren. We must let them know they can achieve their dreams, no matter how big, because God is vast and powerful. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.

Father, I praise You for giving me Your powerful Spirit to achieve my dreams. Let me breathe hope into a child today. Keep my family and me safe and bind us closer to You. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

  1. I listen to the world news once a day. A couple of days ago, Drew and I were commenting that there is not one good or hopeful piece of news. Night after night it is the same thing. Not one piece of positive news…shortage of formula, inflation, the stock market, gas prices, Russia, Ukraine etc. It is terrible. The only thing that makes you feel anything but anger is the one feel good piece that they do at the end of the news. I try not to concentrate on anything bad during the day and think about happy things. Yes, Jesus gives us hope that there are many things positive in our lives. Sometimes we have to look harder and be more diligent about looking but there is hope out there. We need Jesus to help us find and focus on the good and positive things that happen in our lives and in the world.

Jesus , please help us look for the beauty, the positive, the hopeful, the remarkable things that surround us. Please give us hope that better days are ahead for us, our country and the world.. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

    1. I’m so glad you were able to read a devotion this weekend. I’m grateful you are healing. I pray often for you. I rarely listen to the news because it is often discouraging. Praying for you to get through the week. Love you, Sis.
