The next day Agrippa and Bernice came with great pomp and entered the audience room with the high-ranking military officers and the prominent men of the city. At the command of Festus, Paul was brought in. Festus said: “King Agrippa, and all who are present with us, you see this man! The whole Jewish community has petitioned me about him in Jerusalem and here in Caesarea, shouting that he ought not to live any longer. I found he had done nothing deserving of death, but because he made his appeal to the Emperor, I decided to send him to Rome. But I have nothing definite to write to His Majesty about him. Therefore I have brought him before all of you, and especially before you, King Agrippa, so that as a result of this investigation, I may have something to write. For I think it is unreasonable to send a prisoner on to Rome without specifying the charges against him.” (Acts 25:23-27)
King Agrippa and Bernice came to the audience room with great pomp, and Paul came in chains. The royalty, high-ranking military officers, and prominent men in the city came for hobnobbing and entertainment. Paul came to tell them about Jesus.
Governor Festus asked the audience to investigate and find a charge. God asked Paul to tell the pompous about Jesus.
You may feel like you’re bound in chains as Paul was. It’s not fair because you’ve done nothing wrong. You’d rather be hobnobbing and entertained than be in a financial crisis, in bed with poor health, or at a funeral of a loved one.
Ask yourself. Would you rather rule the world—or be in chains and depend on Jesus to save you?
Father, I praise You for sending Jesus to save me. Release me from my chains of poor health, financial crisis, sadness, or worry so I can better serve you. Please keep my loved ones and me safe today and bind us closer to You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
There are a lot of thoughts with this devotion. Life is often not fair and death can be unfair too. There isn’t a person on Earth that has had a totally fair life. We can be financially stable, have more money than we know what to do with, or be a pauper. If we have enough money to pay our bills we should be grateful. If we have lots of money we should not be pompous and egotistical, but humble. If we know of someone in need, we should help. I believe that you can rule the world but still be gracious, humble and a Christian. You can have it all and still depend on Jesus. Greed and entitlement are such a motivators now. We need to remember that there are still good people in this world that depend on and love Jesus. Most of all God wants us to be humble as we live our lives.
I pray for a true Christian who understands economics to step forward and run for POTUS. Someone more humble than Trump. What part of death is unfair. Do you mean the loss of a child?
I agree with your comment. Yes, I feel death can be unfair when you lose a child, or someone that is just far too young. There is much to be grateful for when you live a good long life. When mom and dad died, it was difficult. I always thought that both lived good long lives. When someone is young, I think acceptance is a lot more difficult.
