Daily Devotional Acts 22:25-29 – How should you respond to bullying? – Free online Bible study – Commentary in easy English – Day 659

As they stretched him out to flog him, Paul said to the centurion standing there, “Is it legal for you to flog a Roman citizen who hasn’t even been found guilty?” When the centurion heard this, he went to the commander and reported it. “What are you going to do?” he asked. “This man is a Roman citizen.” The commander went to Paul and asked, “Tell me, are you a Roman citizen?” “Yes, I am,” he answered. Then the commander said, “I had to pay a lot of money for my citizenship.” “But I was born a citizen,” Paul replied. Those who were about to interrogate him withdrew immediately. The commander himself was alarmed when he realized that he had put Paul, a Roman citizen, in chains. (Romans 22:25-29)

I’m being bullied by my insurance company. They preapproved Prolea injections because I have the osteoporotic bones of an 80-year-old. I still had to pay $400+ out of pocket for each injection. Eight months after my first shot the insurance company decided to reject my claim and now my bill will be $1,300+ for each treatment. I’ve already had two.

When someone puts us in chains, God doesn’t want us to be timid or shy. We should stand up for ourselves in a respectful way. When a supervisor calls me from the insurance company, I won’t express my anger. I will ask a question as Paul did. “Do you think it’s important that someone suffering from a disease should be able to trust their insurance company?” A well-thought-out question doesn’t trigger anger from the other side, it makes them think.

God is with us and wants to help solve our problems. We can have peace when we know that He is in charge, not the person or entities that bully us.

Father, I praise You for helping me solve my problems when I ask you to. Give me the strength to stand up for myself without getting angry. Increase my faith so I will have confidence that you will help me through difficult situations so I can feel your love and peace. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

  1. I think that everyone is bullied at sometime in their life. It is hard to go through. Trey had a terrible experience being bullied last summer. I was proud of him for not reacting to the other boy but staying strong too. Insurance companies can be unfair. They want to control our medical issues, when that is the doctors job. So we have to be strong and ask for appeals. Even though I pray for a certain outcome, and what I prayed about doesn’t turn out the way I wanted it to, I try to remember that God knows what is best and He gives me strength to get through the problem. Sometimes it is difficult to understand why God didn’t answer our prayer the way that we wanted Him too. I have a feeling that you will resolve your problem. Love and blessings , Sis.

    1. Thanks for your comment. I’m praying for strength to resolve this issue. I prayed for you this morning. Love and miss you Sis.
