Daily Devotional Acts 22:14-16 – How can I deepen my relationship with Jesus? – Part 2 – Free online Bible study – Commentary in easy English – Day 656

“Then he said: ‘The God of our ancestors has chosen you to know his will and to see the Righteous One and to hear words from his mouth. You will be his witness to all people of what you have seen and heard. And now what are you waiting for? Get up. Be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.’” (Acts 22:14-16)

After our triune God has chosen you to be in a relationship with Him, He’ll let you know His will, “see” your relationship with Jesus, and “hear” words from his mouth. He calls on you to be a witness for him. Some are called to be preachers and evangelists, but we can all make people want what we have by passing on God’s love.

He called Paul to get up, be baptized, and wash his sins away by calling on His name. If he wants you to do the same, you will “hear” or feel the urge inside you. Don’t suppress it because doing what He asks will deepen your relationship with Him. Only an adult can get up and call on the name of Jesus.

If you don’t feel God calling you to be baptized as an adult, that’s okay. This Scripture also tells us that calling on the name of Jesus is what washes our sins away. That is what saves us. Doing what he asks deepens our relationship with him.

Father, I praise you for calling me to deepen my relationship with Jesus. Help me hear His voice and feel His urges inside me. Keep urging me to do what He asks. Keep me and my loved ones safe today and bind us closer to You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen

  1. I did respond to this before, so I am not sure what happened to my first comment. I have never felt the urge to be baptized as an adult. A lot of people are baptized as infants, and that is really more for the parents and their commitment to raising their child as a Christian. Of course, that was the case with us. I am OK with the way it is. I don’t believe that God/Jesus looks at me any differently for not being baptized as an adult. If I ever feel the urge I would be baptized as an adult.

    1. Being baptized in water as an adult is totally between you and Jesus. Every Christian is baptized by the Holy Spirit, and I believe that is the baptism that is required for salvation. God gives that to us through grace. Blessings, Jody
