Daily Devotional Acts 21:33-36 – Will God carry me through the storm? – Free online Bible study – Commentary in easy English – Day 649

The commander came up and arrested him and ordered him to be bound with chains. Then he asked who he was and what he had done. Some in the crowd shouted one thing and some another, and since the commander could not get at the truth because of the uproar, he ordered that Paul be taken into the barracks. When Paul reached the steps, the violence of the mob was so great he had to be carried by the soldiers. The crowd that followed kept shouting, “Get rid of him!” (Acts 21:33-36)

My husband is on call 24/7/365 so he’s not required to sign up for weekend duty. Coworkers who aren’t aware that his sleep and weekends are sometimes disturbed are jealous and want him to participate to ease their burdens. They’ve begun to create disturbances in the office for him and his assistant. Some want to get rid of him.

We’ve also had people treat us poorly. They lie or start conflict when we’re successful, have different customs and beliefs, or when we don’t stand up for ourselves and become easy targets. Humans are jealous, vie for power, and want to feel good about themselves.

Like Jesus, on his way to the cross, a mob wanted Paul dead. God planned for Jesus to be crucified, to undergo more pain than we will come across so he understands what we’re going through.

It wasn’t Paul’s time to die. God had begun writing the New Testament through Paul and Paul had not finished the task, so God had Paul carried from danger.

If you’re being mistreated, know that God loves you. Jesus weeps with you because he understands how you feel. Pray and ask—Jesus will guide you. God will arrange for someone to carry you out of trouble like He did for Paul or ease your burden (or cross) as he did for Jesus.

Father, I praise you for sending Jesus to save me. Thank you for carrying me through life’s storms. Give me Your power today through Your Spirit and take my problems so I can be joyful and give Your love to others. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

  1. I wasn’t aware that your husband was having issues like these. Has he ever spoken up and told co-workers that he is on call everyday? I dislike office politics and most people that have integrity do not like office politics. I hope that your husband stands up for himself and does not become as easy target. People want to feel good about themselves at the expense of others. It is sad and that makes the workplace difficult. Your husband has integrity and God will be looking after him. Saying prayers for you and your family. Blessings Sis.

    1. Thanks so much for your prayers and comment. His boss told the people complaining. Guess they weren’t satisfied. But you’re right, God will see him through his troubles. Blessings, Jody
