Daily Devotional Acts 21:27-29 – Where is God in times of trouble? – Free online Bible study – Commentary in easy English – Day 648

When the seven days were nearly over, some Jews from the province of Asia saw Paul at the temple. They stirred up the whole crowd and seized him, shouting, “Fellow Israelites, help us! This is the man who teaches everyone everywhere against our people and our law and this place. And besides, he has brought Greeks into the temple and defiled this holy place.” (They had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian in the city with Paul and assumed that Paul had brought him into the temple.) The whole city was aroused, and the people came running from all directions. Seizing Paul, they dragged him from the temple, and immediately the gates were shut. While they were trying to kill him, news reached the commander of the Roman troops that the whole city of Jerusalem was in an uproar. He at once took some officers and soldiers and ran down to the crowd. When the rioters saw the commander and his soldiers, they stopped beating Paul.  (Acts 21:27-32)

God knew the Ephesians from the province of Asia would be in Jerusalem for Pentecost and seize Paul. Demetrius, the silversmith who made images of Artemis, told lies about Paul in Ephesus and started a riot. Again, they try to kill him in the same manner.

In earlier Scripture, the Holy Spirit had warned Paul his life would be endangered if he went to Jerusalem, but Paul wanted to sacrifice his life for Jesus. He had faith God would see him through his troubles.

God had begun writing the New Testament through Paul, but the letters to the Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon had not been written yet. When God starts a good work, He will carry it on to completion. (Philippians 1:6)

Paul would’ve been stoned and beaten to death when the Ephesians seized him if God hadn’t prepared for Paul’s trouble. Before this incident, He arranged for the fortress of Antonio, a guardhouse taller than the temple, to be built next to it. The Roman soldiers on guard saw the riot, told the commander, and ran to the crowd. They stopped beating Paul.

When your life is in chaos, know that before your troubles began, God planned a way out of them. Pray for and trust Him to get you through.

Father, I praise you for being with me when my life is chaotic. I trust you with my troubles and to finish the works you have begun in me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen

  1. Faith in God sees us through our problems. Sometimes when we are going through hard times it is difficult to have a strong faith. We wonder where God is and why would He put us through such chaos. We feel abandoned. As we grow in our faith, we trust God more because He has answered our prayers, and we know we are His children and He loves us more than we can imagine. Paul certainly great and unwavering faith and trust in God and Jesus. I pray that I can be that strong when I am faced with turmoil.

  2. My family members every time say that I am wasting my time here
at web, however I know I am getting know-how all
the time by reading thes pleasant articles or reviews.

    1. Jessica, thank you so much for your encouragement and for coming to my website. Isn’t it wonderful to know that God helps us solve our problems? I prayed for you and your family today. I hope you know how wide and long and high and deep God’s love is for you. Blessings, Jody
