Daily Devotional Acts 13:49-52—What should you do when you’re rejected? – Free online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 572

The word of the Lord spread through the whole region. But the Jewish leaders incited the God-fearing women of high standing and the leading men of the city. They stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their region. So they shook the dust off their feet as a warning to them and went to Iconium. And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit. (Acts 13:49-52)

Rejection can be difficult. It was especially difficult at school. If one of the popular kids rejected you, they would encourage others to reject you. In the same way, the Jewish leaders not only influenced the Jews to reject Peter and Barnabas, they recruited the Gentile women of high standing and the leading men to hate them.

If you’re rejected, follow the example of Paul and Barnabas: 1) Don’t try to be accepted by proving yourself right. 2) Move on and find another group of friends. 3) Shake the dust off your feet and don’t let rejection bother you. 4) Remain close to God, and He will remain close to you.  5) Be joyful in adversity, so others will know you belong to God.

Heavenly Father, I praise you for the wisdom of Your word. When I am rejected, You comfort me. When a door shuts, You will open a window. Because of your promises, I can shake the dust off my feet and be joyful. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

  1. With age comes wisdom. As kids rejection was so hurtful and difficult to deal with. If rejected by a friend, it was the end of the world. As an adult, rejection may sting for a few days, but we know we are supposed to surround ourselves with positive, joyful people who make us happy. Life is too short to surround ourselves with negative friends and family that are not loyal. Yep, shake the dust off your feet and move on from the disappointment. God will see us through it.

    1. I have been blogging for about three years. Thank you for your encouragement and coming to my website. Isn’t it wonderful that when we are rejected God comforts us and opens other windows. I prayed for you and your family today and hope you know how wide and long and high and deep God’s love is for you. Blessings, Jody
