Daily Devotional Acts 10:29b-33a – Why is kindness important to God? – Free Online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 541

“May I ask why you sent for me?” (Peter asked.) Cornelius answered: “Three days ago I was in my house praying at this hour, at three in the afternoon. Suddenly a man in shining clothes stood before me and said, ‘Cornelius, God has heard your prayer and remembered your gifts to the poor. Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He is a guest in the home of Simon the tanner who lives by the sea.’ So I sent for you immediately, and it was good of you to come.” (Acts 10:29b-33a)

On Monday, I was excited for my new refrigerator to be delivered. For a year I haven’t been able to use the ice maker and water because of a leak. When the deliverer installed it, he broke a pipe in the wall, and our house flooded. A couple years ago I would’ve been angry and upset. But God has been working hard to change me. I was able to tell the deliverer that everyone makes mistakes, and it was okay. God can’t use me until I learn to be loving in every situation. Only then will people know that I am His.

In the same way God changed Peter. God could have asked Cornelius to go to Peter, but it was important for Peter to show kindness by traveling to Cornelius. Kindness is important to God because our ministries are only believable when we’re loving.

Heavenly Father, I praise you for changing me. Show me where to go so I can bless others with Your love. Help me to be kind and loving in any situation. In Christ’s name I pray, amen.

  1. Oh Jody, I am so sorry that you had a flood in your house. When upsetting things happen it is hard to control anger. I had the same thing happen here when the plumber was hooking up the washer and dryer. The washer line was broken and water was going everywhere and all over the brand new flooring. I was so busy trying to clean up water that I didn’t have time to get mad. The plumber was so sorry, and it wasn’t his fault. I am also trying to work on controlling anger with God’s help. Heavenly Father, help me be a better person and show kindness to everyone in my life.

    1. Luckily our flooring is waterproof. They brought in dehumidifiers and fixed the hole in the wall where they fixed the pipe that the installer broke. They’re coming Monday to fix the baseboards and paint. I feel blessed that they’re trying to make it right. I also am trying to be more gentle. I am so much better than I used to be but still have a ways to go.
