Daily Devotional Acts 8:30-31 – How do I make Jesus known to others? – Free Online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 518

Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked. “How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. (Acts 8:30-31)

I have a friend, a former pastor, who wants to convert everyone in his neighborhood to Christianity. He’s a kind man, overflowing with love for Jesus. He often asks for prayer at Bible Study that he will meet his neighbors outside, so he can tell them about Jesus. A silent chuckle surfaces because I picture him running across the paths of neighborhood joggers with his walker. This Scripture tells us that conversions happen naturally.

The eunuch searched for his savior by reading Scripture. God urged him to read aloud so Philip could hear him and also urged Philip to ask a simple question. “Do you understand what you are reading?” God brought them together.

We don’t have to chase down people or knock on their doors to convert them to Christianity. It is God who pursues hearts and creates desires in people to know Him. Our part is to pray for people and inform them we’re Christians by spreading His love. In that way we let them and God know we are available to answer questions. God may or may not use us to lead them to Jesus.

Heavenly Father, I praise you for your ability to pursue hearts and create desires. I thank you for pursuing the hearts of my friends and loved ones. Help me do my part to pray for them, love them unceasingly, and being available to answer questions when the time is right. I love you, God, and I pray in Your precious and Holy name. Amen.

  1. Jody, my prayer is just as you prayed. I pray that God leads friends and family to a place where their hearts and minds are open to You. I prayer in Christ’s name. Amen!

    1. I think you meant open to God. I believe He will. I prayed for you and your family today. I love you and am glad you had time for devotions on your vacay. I love hearing from you! Blessings and love, Jody

  2. Yes, that is what I meant….open to God. I made a couple mistakes and that was because I was beyond exhausted when I tried to write. It is hard for an old lady to keep up with all the walking and riding roller coasters!!

    1. I thank God you are well enough to ride those roller coasters and walk for extensive distances. Many people our age cannot. We are blessed. I’m glad you had a great vacation and that you have come back to Bible Study! Blessings and love, Jody
