Daily Devotional Acts 7:25-29 – Why do people misunderstand me? – Free Online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 505

“Moses thought that his own people would realize that God was using him to rescue them, but they did not. The next day Moses came upon two Israelites who were fighting. He tried to reconcile them by saying, ‘Men, you are brothers; why do you want to hurt each other? But the man who was mistreating the other pushed Moses aside and said, ‘Who made you ruler and judge over us? Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday? When Moses heard this, he fled to Midian, where he settled as a foreigner and had two sons. (Acts 7:25-29)

I can imagine Moses felt misunderstood. He lived in a foreign kingdom with the God-given passion to rescue the Israelites. So Moses left Pharaoh’s kingdom to visit his own people. First he rescued an Israelite from the mistreatment of an Egyptian by killing him. He expected the Israelites would see him as a hero, but they did not. They saw him as a foreigner who had come to judge them.

Most of us relate to Moses because we, too, often feel misunderstood. Sometimes jealousy plays a part in misunderstanding but often times it is our own fault we are misunderstood. Perhaps, like Moses, we aren’t ready to be a leader. Do we give glory to God or do we take the glory for our accomplishments? Do we submit to God’s will or do we strike out on our own? Do we ask for the power and wisdom of the Holy Spirit or do we use our own power and the wisdom of the world? It is only when we can answer, “Yes,” to the first part of those questions that God will help others see our good intentions and understand us.

When you feel like a foreigner because you are misunderstood, check your heart and make sure you’re submitting to God’s will, asking for the power, gifts, and wisdom of the Holy Spirit, and giving glory to God. Then God will help others understand you. Don’t flee from God’s kingdom to live in a foreign land like Moses did because you will delay the many blessings God has for you.

Dear Heavenly Father, I praise you for the wisdom of Bible stories. Help me check my heart to make sure it’s in the right place so people don’t misunderstand my intentions. Give me the power, gifts, and wisdom of Your Holy Spirit to accomplish the dreams you placed in my heart and spread Your love. I give you the glory. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

  1. God has a plan for us. I don’t know what his plan is for me. I don’t feel that he is asking me to do anything at the moment. So, I sit and wait until He asks me to do something and live the best life I can until. I do give Him the glory.

    1. Right now, you are a caregiver for everyone in your family in some way. That is an important responsibility. You might also consider a hobby. You used to be a good artist and seamstress. God speaks to us when we use the gifts He has given us. I love you, Sis. Blessings.
