Acts 2:42-47 – Why is church important?

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold possessions and property to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. (Acts 2:42-47)

I’m excited to return to church in April after my husband gets his second COVID vaccination. We’ve decided to attend Central Christian Church in Ocala, FL, whose purpose is simply to “B” Jesus. There are 4 B’s involved in being the body of Christ: To Believe, Belong, Become and Bless.

This early church with 3,120 members, but adding members daily, was an ideal church. Is your church like it? Is it filled with excitement that Jesus saves and everything is possible for those who believe. Our pastors should be devoted to teaching Scripture so we can transform who we are and become more like Jesus. Members should share their homes for eating and worship and have goals to bless because the one who blesses others is abundantly blessed.

Many go to church wishing to be blessed. But if we go praying for the Holy Spirit to give us power to bless others, we’ll be a positive force creating an atmosphere of belonging. It is then that we’ll be greatly blessed ourselves. “We belong to each other, and each needs all the others.” (Romans 12:5b) As a church, we can bless many.

Father God, I know you’ll bless me with a church where I can bless others, praise you, and learn more about you. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit whose power will allow me to become more like Jesus and bless others. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen
