Daily Devotional Acts 4:32-35 – How can I find a house church? – Free Online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 475

All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need. (Acts 4:32-35)

I wish all believers today were one in heart and mind with God. I often pray, “God, let your will be mine.” The early church was called a koinonia, the Greek word for fellowship. They met in small groups in people’s homes and sometimes met as a whole outdoors. They did not pay for a minister or the upkeep of a church building. They donated only to help people in need. There are house churches today, not well advertised due to safety issues. But there is an organization https://www.simplechurchathome.com that helps you find and/or start a house church.

Nowhere in the Bible does it tell us we should share everything we have, but the Bible does say, “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38) God says when giving we should give expecting nothing in return, but He promises giving will always benefit the giver and receiver.

If you’re praying for God to help you in a certain area, try giving to another. When you help others, God will help you.

Father God, I praise you for being the catalyst between givers and receivers. Thank you for blessing me so that I may bless others. Show me the church or house church you would have me attend or start so that I may join others in spreading your love. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

    1. You’re so sweet. Thanks for your encouragement. I prayed for you and your family today. Blessings, Jody

  1. I have a dear and close friend who is Amish. I have learned a lot about the Amish community from her family and friends. They have large outbuildings on their property and this is where they go to church. Each family takes a turn. They divide into groups, about 50 families in a group. They have church at home every other week. So, that means they host the church group at their home every other year. It is a huge undertaking because everything needs to be spotless, and they provide lunch and dinner. Church is all day on Sunday, which is why it is every other week. They have appointed ministers for every group and they run the service. It is interesting to learn about different cultures and how they live and worship. They have a very giving culture. They give their time to their community, and helping families that need help within their community.
