Daily Devotional Acts 4:29-31 – Should Christians respond with anger? – Free Online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 474

“Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” After they prayed the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly. (Acts 4:29-31)

We may not be threatened by leaders as Peter and John were, but the enemy tries to keep us from doing God’s work. When someone angers us, it’s a sign to give the problem to God. Because we trust God, we should thank Him in advance for solving our problems and for the gift of the Holy Spirit, so we can act boldly and perform signs and wonders in the name of Jesus.

Peter and John gave us the example to not be angry at those who threaten us or stand in our way of doing God’s will. When we ask God and trust him to solve our problems, we will no longer respond to people with anger. Then  God will shake up the world around us by giving us His Holy Spirit and enabling us to do His will boldly.

Dearest Father in heaven, I praise you for being trustworthy. Thank you for providing solutions to my problems and providing the means to do Your will. I thank you for stretching out Your hand and healing me and my loved ones. Let me perform signs and wonders through the name of Jesus and the power of Your Holy Spirit so that I may fulfill the dreams you’ve placed in my heart. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

  1. I think that there is an appropriate time for anger. I know you don’t believe in anger but you do get angry. I am not saying a person should be angry often. It is a human emotion and I am not sure if anger can be squelched entirely. I think you are absolutely right, that we should take our anger to God.

    1. I do get angry. Everyone does once in awhile. Sometimes it takes me awhile to give it to God, but eventually I do. I think the only time it is appropriate to get angry is when people are driving others away from God like when Jesus got angry that people were selling things and taking advantage of people in the temple. What do you think is an appropriate time for anger?

  2. When do I think that it is appropriate to get angry? That is a difficult because it pops up in so many areas of life. I guess I feel angry when I have been betrayed or someone has taken advantage of me. I am thinking of the builder on our house and the moving company. I was really angry, and sad. It took me awhile to give it to God but I did eventually. That situation was so emotional for me and I really haven’t gotten over it totally. I have also experienced anger when I have lost close friends or family. When I went to grief counseling the counselor told me anger was a natural emotion to feel when you lose someone close to you. As I said, anger is a natural human emotion and I don’t think that you can stop anger. I also think that if someone hurts me, it is OK for me to say to that person, “You have hurt me and I don’t like what you did or said, and it makes me angry.”
