Daily Devotional Luke 24:33b-35 – The Lord has risen: Has Jesus changed your life? – Online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 430

There (in Jerusalem) they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon (Peter).” Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread. (Luke 24:33b-35)

My sister sent me a comment that she doesn’t always feel worthy to have the Holy Spirit in her life. Jesus is sad when we don’t feel worthy of Him because He died to make us worthy.

When Jesus appeared to his first apostle, He didn’t choose his best friend. He visited the one who needed him most, Peter. Peter fell to his knees with anxious tears after he denied Jesus three times. He was sorry, and Jesus wanted him to know he died to forgive him and to give him peace. The love Jesus demonstrated that first Easter weekend changed many hearts. Peter was the most outspoken and egotistical of the apostles, but Jesus’ love changed Peter’s heart.

Peter learned humility and gentleness that first Easter Day. He left his anxious and proud spirit at the cross. From then on, Peter taught: “Clothe yourself with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble. Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:5b-7)

Jesus’ resurrection didn’t matter until the disciples believed, knew who He was, and what he had died for. Having taken the journey with the disciples, we, too, understand, “It is true! The Lord has risen,” and what that means.

Father God, clothe me with humility, take my anxiety, and make me a gentler person. There have been times in my life when I’ve questioned who you are or even if you existed, but you’ve changed my heart, and I believe. Continue to change me, Lord, to be more like Jesus. Help me spread His love. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

  1. First, I love the bible quote from 1Peter. I was not familiar with this verse and it is wonderful. I am going to mark my Bible. Second, I love the prayer and it is perfect, Jody. We need to be humble and we do not need anxiety to control us. There have been many times when I have wondered if God exists and there have been many times that God has not been important in my life. I can say that has all changed for me and I am grateful for His blessings.
