Daily Devotional Luke 24:31b-33a – Does the Holy Spirit live in me? – The Road to Emmaus, Part 7 – Online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 429

And He (Jesus) disappeared from their sight. They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us? They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. (Luke 24:31b-33a)

My sister and sister-in-law follow my blog regularly. They know my heart for Jesus, and I can’t express how much it means to me. I want to know the hearts of my readers so I can better help meet their needs and connect them with the heart of Jesus through the Scriptures I write about.

While reading Scripture, we learn the heart and unconditional love of Jesus. We know Him intimately even though we don’t see Him. But there’s more to Jesus than His teachings, love and humanity because He shares a spirit with God. It was the Holy Spirit that made Cleopas’s heart (and hopefully ours) burn on the road to Emmaus. And it was both knowledge of the Scripture and the warmth of the Holy Spirit burning within him that made Cleopas want to surrender his bread and then his life to Jesus. The Holy Spirit comforts us, gives us power, prays for us when we don’t know what to pray, and makes our hearts burn. When Jesus went to heaven permanently, He sent His Holy Spirit to be with us. Without Jesus or His Spirit, it took Cleopas and us all day to trudge from Jerusalem to Emmaus. Now, with the power and excitement of the Holy Spirit, we return to Jerusalem at once.

When our hearts burn with the Holy Spirit, we know Jesus is in us.

Dearest Heavenly Father, let me burn with the power and love of Your Holy Spirit to carry on Your work with excitement. Help my heart become more like the heart of Jesus and be sensitive to the hearts of others. In His name I pray, amen.

  1. I feel that we carry the Holy Spirit in our hearts. He is with us all the time. There are many times when I do not feel worthy of that. I am not perfect and when I get angry about something, I do not feel worthy. I think that it is easy to feel unworthy. Jesus is perfection and we are not. Even when I am angry or when I have sinned, I know that He is with me. He doesn’t give up on me, even when I feel like giving up on myself. Jesus, thank you for allowing me to feel worthy of you. The Holy Spirit has blessed me many times over.

    1. You should always feel worthy of Jesus. He died to take your sins away, so you are perfect in His eyes, and He loves you so much. He helped God create you with special gifts and loves to watch you use them. I know it seems impossible, but He loves you more than you love your own daughter. Don’t ever forget that. You and I are very blessed. Peter denied Jesus three times after Jesus warned him he would. He went to see Peter first of all the apostles because He knew Peter needed him more. He died for Peter’s sins and yours and mine too.

  2. First off I would like to say superb blog! I had a quick
question which I’d like to ask if you don’t mind. I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear your thoughts
before writing. I have had a tough time clearing my
mind in getting my thoughts out. I do enjoy writing but it
just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are wasted just
trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or tips?
    Many thanks! 0mniartist asmr

  3. I’m amazed, I have to admit. Rarely do I encounter a blog
that’s both educative and engaging, and without a doubt, you’ve hit the nail on the head.
The problem is something that too few folks are speaking intelligently about.

Now i’m very happy I found this in my hunt for something concerning this.
