Daily Devotional Luke 23:29-31 – Will God help me with my problems? – What does green tree mean in the Bible? – Online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 408

“For indeed the days are coming in which they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, wombs that never bore, and breasts which never nursed!’ Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us!’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us!’ For if people do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when the tree is dry?’ (Luke 23:29-31)

During Jesus’ ministry, trees were green; He had many followers. Times were good as He taught crowds of people to love each other and do God’s will. Green trees symbolize Jesus, those who follow Jesus, love, or times of peace. Dry trees symbolize the opposite: evil and hatred, things that easily burn or burn you, war, and end times. I often imagine coming face to face with Jesus since He’s a character in my novel, Denial of the Enemy. Picture Jesus, your true soul mate – the one who understands you completely and loves you more than anyone else. Pray about your troubles, then Imagine Him sitting next to you. What does He say to you to make you feel better. How does He say you should respond to the person who treated you unfairly. Write it down.

  1. The Jews, Gentiles, and sin killed our Savior, Jesus, in the spring when the trees and bushes were green and flowering. Now, we’re recovering from COVID and the reign of Donald Trump (whether you like him or not), but things remain fairly green. Even in green times, humanity punches us in the gut. A co-worker gossips, our spouse cheats, a police officer harasses, a friend lies, or someone hurts our child. A door closes. God guides us through our troubles and multiplies our blessings on the other side. He did it for Job, and he’ll do it for us. It is apparent from our study of Luke that God allowed His Son to die on the cross and take our sins with Him.

As we study the Book of Acts, we’ll see the positive of Jesus’ death as the Holy Spirit takes His place. Good comes from our troubles when we “hang” with Jesus, pray to God, and depend on the power and comfort of the Holy Spirit to change our lives and the lives of others through us. When God closes a door, He opens many windows. Even in times of war and end times when those alive will wish they could die quickly or had no children to experience the agony, God will save us through the death of our flesh and bring us to heaven with our loved ones where we will live in joy, without tears, for eternity.

Father God, thank you for the hope I have in Jesus. I thought _________ cared about me, but doesn’t. A door slammed in my face. I know you will open another door, the one that leads to the best path because You are my Father and Creator, and You love me more than anyone else does. I will watch you fight my battles while I am still and know that You are God. I trust you for justice. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen

  1. I learn something new from you everyday. I did not know the meaning of green tree. You personalize Jesus beautifully. As I pray, I never pictured Jesus sitting next to me and listening nor telling me something to make me feel better. I always picture him in Heaven and listening to me from above. I know that my prayers are not always answered immediately. I know that my prayers are not always answered the way I want them answered. I feel that God does not promise perfection. He gives us challenges through out our whole life to make us stronger, to learn from, and perhaps to make us think harder about good decisions and bad decisions we have made and the path that we want our life to take. There are things that I can’t handle by myself, so I trust God to help. I like your statement that you trust God for justice.

    1. Thanks for your encouragement. I learn most every day also. We need to trust God for justice. I wrote more about that today. I can finally forgive the one who betrayed my family and heal from it.

  2. Recovering from reign of Trump??? And police offer harrasses??? You’re making a biok with Jesus s a character??? This is blasphemy spoken by blm and other apostates.

    1. Dear Nunya, I’m sorry you didn’t like my post and that I offended you. I don’t like to make my posts political, but I’m a moderate. I agreed with many of the decisions of President Trump and in no way meant to disrespect him as President because I believe all presidents deserve respect. However, President Trump did not always use kindness with His words, and I don’t think Jesus would agree with how he spoke to people. I also have respect for most police officers, but they are thrown into a job without much training (many only 6 months) and feel it is a job that should have at least two to four years of training. God made skin color with much or little skin pigment so we could survive in different parts of the world, not so we should hate each other. I hate the division we’re seeing right now, and I hope we’re able to recover from it. I hate that slavery happened. Jesus hated it, and I hate that my own father played at golf courses that didn’t allow African Americans to play golf there. He didn’t think he was prejudice, yet he turned his back to how others were being treated. I didn’t personify God as a character in my book as I did Jesus. William Young made that mistake in the Shack and many thought it was blasphemy. Jesus was and is a person as well as God, and I pray that I’m showing Him as the loving man He was and is. I am sorry you think I am a blasphemer. Maybe you’ll offer to read my book before I publish it to make sure I am portraying Jesus as He is. I realize it is a very big responsibility. Thank you for visiting my site, and again, I am very sorry I offended you. I prayed for you and your family. Blessings, Jody
