Daily Devotional Luke 22:27-30 – What is God’s government? – Online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 386

Commentary For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves. You are those who have stood by me in my trials. And I confer on you a new kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me, so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. (Luke 27-30)

In God’s new kingdom those who sit on thrones and at the table will serve one another. Twelve is a symbol in the Bible for perfect government but perhaps there will be twelve tribes. If so, family will be expanded to a tribe and our neighbors will be the other tribes. The apostles would make sure the spiritual needs of their tribes are met through all of us.

Jesus judges with mercy as will the apostles. He said, “I will have mercy on them all.” Perhaps the apostles will help us show mercy to the family member, ex-friend, or ex-spouse we’re no longer speaking with who is also in heaven. Dislike and hate won’t exist there. If we can’t work out our differences while we’re on earth, Jesus and perhaps the apostles will help us work it out in heaven or before we reach heaven.

Dearest Father in heaven, thank you for your mercy. I look forward to a time when all my relationships are restored with friends and family. Through the help of Jesus and the apostles we will understand and know each other’s hearts and love each other to our fullest capacities and eat at Your table with one another in Your new kingdom. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

  1. I think that your prayer is perfect. I no longer have a relationship with my husband’s family. It was just too hard to continue something that brought so much stress and grief into my life. I hope that you are right and we will know and understand each others hearts when we meet in Heaven.
