Daily Devotional Luke 20:39-40 – Does Jesus have perfect answers? – Why did the Jewish leaders dare not ask Jesus any more questions? – Online Bible study – Commentary in easy English – Day 366

Some of the teachers responded, “Well said, teacher!” And no one dared to ask him any more questions.” (Luke 20:39-40)

Yesterday I was frustrated. A hacker hacked my online accounts, affecting Facebook, internet, Amazon, and Walmart. I can’t make purchases or get into Facebook. Yesterday it drove me crazy as I tried to purchase and change passwords. Nothing worked. I can imagine God shaking His head from heaven saying, “Daughter, why don’t you ask for my help. I know what needs to be done.”

The Sadducees asked a hypothetical question: If a woman had been married to seven brothers and had no children who would she be married to in heaven. Expecting Jesus to say there is no afterlife, He told them they were mistaken in their beliefs and told them from their limited knowledge of Scripture that there is afterlife and resurrection. He also answered their question that there is no contractual marriage in heaven.

The Pharisees and Sadducees thought differently. The Pharisees studied the whole Old Testament, the Sadducees only the first five books. The Pharisees believed in afterlife and resurrection, but the Sadducees did not. Jesus confirmed the Pharisees were correct and were the ones to respond, “Well said, teacher!” I’m sure with smug, “I told you so” looks on their faces.

Jesus always has the perfect answers. Previously He had given the chief priests, teachers of the Law, elders, and Pharisees perfect answers to their questions. They discovered it’s impossible to trick Jesus or disguise what’s on our minds or hearts. Since they were consumed with killing Jesus, they dared not ask any more questions.

When we have frustrations or questions, God has the perfect answers. He knows our hearts and the hearts of people we’re dealing with. He knows what needs to be done. Today as I solve my internet problems, I will ask Jesus to help me speak to people who can help me. God will always help solve my problems and answer my questions, but only when I ask.

Father God, Holy is Your name. You know my heart. Today _______________ is troubling me. Help. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
