Daily Devotional Luke 20:17-19 – How to break a bad habit, step 6 – Find God’s refuge – The Parable of the Tenants (Part 3) – Online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 360

Jesus looked directly at them and asked, “Then what is the meaning of that which is written: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone?’ (Psalm 118:22) Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.” The teachers of the law and the chief priests looked for a way to arrest him immediately, because they knew he had spoken this parable against them. But they were afraid of the people. (Luke 20:17-19)

After reading Psalm 118, we realize the cornerstone is the refuge of God, our rock in the midst of the world.  Those who don’t bring their problems and requests to God fall and will be broken into pieces. Those who die without knowing God’s refuge will be crushed at Judgment. Can you imagine feeling the guilt of every wrong you’ve done in your life if you haven’t asked and been granted forgiveness? If we haven’t taken God’s refuge during our lifetime, we need to be clobbered over the head to realize we need a Savior. Jesus is the only way into heaven. “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” (John 14:6) This parable was spoken about the chief priests and teachers of the law. They wanted to kill Jesus, not hear the truth. But Jesus’ death would be on His time. As always, God was in control.

The sixth step to leaving a bad habit or trait at the cross is to find God’s refuge. We need to pray wherever we are, but it’s good to have a comfy chair, a place with a view, or bedside on our knees to have an actual place at home where we feel God’s peace and favor to remind us we’re in God’s refuge. We need to feel His love to leave a bad habit or trait at the cross.

Dear Gracious and Merciful God, holy is Your name. I give you authority over my heart. As I sit with You in Your refuge of peace, I know You will help me leave ___________ at the cross. Help me learn from Jesus and help me be more like Him as I make the journey to the cross. Forgive me my wrongs, Lord, and help me to forgive others. I love you. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

  1. Heavenly Father, help me to feel your peace. This morning I am nervous and worried. I need peace in your refuge as I face my day. Please help me find what I am looking for, Father. Please be at my side and guide me through what seems very difficult right now. Show me the right path if I am not on the correct path. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.

    1. Dearest Pam, I love your prayer. I also prayed for peace and God’s refuge for you. I am sorry you are going through difficult times. I’m sure God will answer your sincere prayer. I love you. Blessings, Jody

  2. Thanks for your prayers, Sis! You know what, they are working. The problem is still ahead and not solved but the anxiety is at bay and I am feeling more relaxed. I will continue to pray.
