Daily Devotional Luke 19:41-44 – How do I break a bad habit, step 2 – Trust Jesus to save me – Online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 355

As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace – but now it is hidden from your eyes. The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you. (Luke 19:41-44)

Jesus wept because the Jews didn’t recognize He was God, the Son. They wanted Him to save them from the Romans, not from themselves. Jesus saw into history. The Jews became insufferable and the Romans would dash them to the ground and not leave one stone on another in 70 AD when the Romans wiped out Jerusalem, their temple, and the Jews living there. They didn’t see Jesus was the only one who could bring peace.

Having peace is knowing your wrongdoings have been forgiven, knowing God’s unconditional love, knowing God’s protection, and knowing you’ll be united with God and reunited with your family and furry friends in heaven. Without that knowledge there is no peace.

The second step to leaving a bad habit or trait at the cross is to trust Jesus to save you and your heart. Give Him permission to take a jack hammer and take down the wall you’ve built around your heart, so he can fill it with His love, peace, and protection.

Dearest Father in Heaven, I give glory to You and Jesus for saving me and changing my heart. Thank you for Your love, peace, and protection. I want to leave ___________ at the cross because it is not my god. You are my God, and I want to crave you only. Please change my heart so I can be more like Jesus. In His Holy and precious name, I pray, amen.

  1. There is probably not a person on the planet who doesn’t want to break a bad habit or trait. I know I have several that I need to work on. I am not sure how to approach the situation. Two of them concern my health and so I should be tackling them like a lion after prey. It isn’t that I don’t care, because I do. Nothing is impossible if you want it bad enough, right? I guess I feel like my heart isn’t in it right now. So, how do I improve my attitude? I need to pray more about the situation and that will help me. I need to take it to God and leave my controlling ways behind, because I can’t do it by myself. Did I answer my own question?

    1. Yes, you did answer your own question. Although Jesus was able to get rid of a whole crown of thorns, we’re not God and perhaps it is better to begin with just one bad habit or trait to leave at the cross. But that decision must be made with God. So prayer is the answer. The Bible says we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. God knows your heart better than You do, so ask God what you need to do to get your heart on board. You posted this comment before my latest blog that says the fourth step is to repent and give all authority or control to God. We are learning through this study and I am learning with you. I would suggest you wait a week before starting and do a lot of praying in the meantime. As we learn, I am incorporating what we learn into the prayer at the end of the devotional. I have heard and believe that it is better to have a prayer and accountability partner, so I am willing to do that for you or any of my readers that will also pray and hold me accountable on or offline.

  2. I agree about an accountability partner. I think that it is a good thing to think about and pray about. It is how an alcoholic or drug addict get through their tough times. AAA has partners for those that want and need them. It is someone who totally understands. I think that it is a good idea and I am on board. If you are willing, we can talk about it. I think God would be on board with this too.

  3. You must take part in a contest for one of the most fascinating blog sites on the web. I would endorse your blog!.
