Daily Devotional Luke 19:21-23 – Why was the third servant called wicked? – The Parable of the Ten Minas (Part 3) – Online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 351

“‘I (the unloving follower) was afraid of you, because you (Jesus) are a hard man. You take out what you did not put in and reap what you did not sow.’ His master replied, ‘I will judge you by your own words, you wicked servant! You knew, did you, that I am a hard man, taking out what I did not put in, and reaping what I did not sow? Why then didn’t you put my money on deposit, so that when I came back, I could have collected it with interest?’” (Luke 19:21-23)

Clair McElfresh was the glee club director at Cleveland Heights High School. He expected and received perfection on stage, and his choir traveled the country receiving awards. I attended his sold-out concerts, and it was a huge disappointment when he quit my first year to start a music program at FIU in Miami. “Mac” was a great leader. As a director, he didn’t sing, he led. He was the essence of the choir.

Bosses don’t work in the field. Disgruntled employees, those who think they should be boss, accuse their manager of taking what they didn’t put in and reaping what they didn’t sow. They work hard, follow the rules, and accuse others. We know people who believe in Jesus but don’t spread God’s love. Jesus, in turn, is hard on them. He calls them wicked because their unloving personalities keep others from knowing Jesus. He’s the essence of Christianity, and we’ll reap rewards when we spread His love.

Christians encouraging other believers and shepherding non-believers is the interest God wants on his deposit of love. Relationships are everything to Him.

Father God, thank you for your love. Remind me to pass it on every time I encounter someone. I want to shepherd Your loved ones. Fill me with the Holy Spirit to help me change into the person You want me to be. In Christ’s name I pray. Amen.

  1. I think that God made us and accepts us for exactly who we are. I don’t believe he wants to change us and our personality. I believe he wants to help improve us and help make us the best version of who we are. God knows our limitations, after all He created us. I can not be something that I am not. I need to be true to myself and something about that makes me feel that God totally understands. I can leave my comfort zone for Him and I can try to be a better person.

    1. Thanks for your comment. I need to take another look because I meant change our hearts and spirits, not who we are. I’m not sure what personality includes. If we are negative, unloving, or anxious people, God wants to change that. I don’t think those qualities are part of who we were created to be. You are definitely right about improving us and making us the best version of who we are. Like I said, I need to take another look at what I wrote and make it clearer. Thanks.

  2. You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this matter
to be actually something which I think I would
never understand. It seems too complex and extremely broad for me.
I am looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!

    1. Christel, thanks for your comment. I will try harder to make my posts easier to understand. I prayed for you and your family and hope you will return to my website. Blessings, Jody
