Daily Devotional Luke 17:5-6 – Will God help you follow your dreams? – Faith as small as a mustard seed – Online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 329

The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” He replied, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.’”

In my early twenties my faith was as small as a mustard seed. Physical therapy school was difficult at University of Florida, and I almost failed. I prayed and studied my way through the rest of the semester and barely passed. God was with me every day. After that crisis, I prayed I would find a caring man to spend the rest of my life with. When I was out one evening, God pointed out a man and said, “He’s the one you’ll spend the rest of your life with.” And I have. I’ve prayed my children through life, and God has answered one prayer after another. My faith in Him is solid.

It’s difficult to express how faithful God is. His faith in us is great and ours in Him begins small, so small, we debate if we should pray. But we do. “God if you’re out there, help me ______.” God comes through for us, but we debate if it was God at all. So we pray again and again, and our prayers are answered. Sometimes in an unexpected way, sometimes months later, sometimes right away but in the greatest way possible because God knows best.

We know we can’t talk to a tree and have it obey us. This is God telling us to pray for the big dream He placed in our hearts that seems impossible. It’s the dream we’ve suppressed because we know we’re not good enough, powerful enough, or rich enough to accomplish it. But when you pray for the power of the Holy Spirit, for God to put the right people in your life, give you money, knowledge, or whatever you need to accomplish your dream and work at it, your dream will happen. I have many dreams, but my first is to get my novel edited and published. It seems impossible, but God has and will continue to answer my prayers and make it happen. He’ll do the same for you.

I pray you’ll join or continue with me on this journey with Jesus. We’ll begin the process as we rid ourselves of hindrances and gain the faith needed to fulfill our dreams.

Dearest Father in heaven. You’ve placed a dream in my heart. Give me the power of the Holy Spirit and help my faith grow every day so I can realize my dream and bring it to fruition. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.

  1. It is difficult to understand how joyous Heaven will be and it is also difficult to understand the faith and love God has for us. I trust God knows what is best for me and that he is listening to my prayers.

    1. I believe the spiritual and physical world change every time you pray. Your prayers send angels into motion, and the angels go to earth and arrange spiritual coincidences according to what is best for you. It is great to have trust and faith in God and know that he has faith and love for us also.
