Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out. Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.” (Luke 14:34-35)
We are called upon to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. … (and to) Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Mark 12:30-31a) I love what Beth Moore says about this passage in her book, Audacious. “To love God more is never to love people less. … It’s to relieve them of being your false Christ. … indescribable freedom comes when we no longer need humans to save us. We set people free to love us in a way they never otherwise could have when we no longer hold them responsible for giving us the lives we were born to live. Only Jesus can do that for us.”
Jesus says, “whoever has ears, let them hear,” fourteen times in the New Testament to let us know His words are important. Open your ears. This message is important and wraps up what Jesus says about becoming His disciple.
Salt and love have similar properties. Both are flavorful, send nerve impulses, preserve, and have healing properties. Love heightens our taste buds, gives us goosebumps, preserves and flourishes our relationships, and heals all wounds. Table salt is a very stable compound and loses its saltiness only when diluted. When our love is diluted, our relationships fail, and we are no longer the salt of the earth. We are not even fit for a manure pile. Here this! Love strong! Salty love is required to follow Jesus, and when we follow Him, He will make our love salty again.
Dearest Heavenly Father, thank you for your Son, Jesus, who saved me. He set me free to love others and to be easier to love because I’m no longer needy. Let me have ears to realize this message and hear everything you say to me. Help me to love aggressively, so I can dance gracefully through this world of hate and turmoil. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
Even though the world is full of hate and turmoil, if we love God with all of our heart, soul and mind we can go through this life with more love in our heart and a more positive attitude. We have to find ways to keep our minds full of love, so we are not letting the turmoil and hate pull us down. We need to find hope in the love of God and Jesus Christ. I love your comparison of love and salt.
Thank you. The only way I can keep a positive attitude is to pray, write, love, and not watch the news. I am thankful I don’t live in a big city being ravaged by the enemy. There is always hope in God’s love.
