Daily Devotional Luke 14:31-33 – What does the Bible say about giving up everything for God? – Online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English –

Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples. (Luke 14:31-33)

Many of our fathers, grandfathers, uncles, great-grandfathers, and great-uncles fought in World War II. If it weren’t for these brave men of the Greatest Generation, most if not all of our world would be Communist. Many of the battles shouldn’t have been won, but God allowed breakthroughs in technology and helped our men when the odds were overwhelming. These men gave up everything, some even their lives, because the terms of peace meant no peace, no freedom. God fought with them, and they won.

When we’re disciples of Jesus, God will fight for us also. We may be called upon to give our time, our money, or even our lives to a good cause, but God gives us so much in return – love, abundant life, joy, family, good friends, gifts, pets, beauty/nature, and eternal life with Him. When we fight God’s fight and are willing to give up everything, God gives us much more in return.

Father God, thank you for the men of the Great Generation, most of whom are with You now, and thank you for fighting with them so much of the world still has freedom to worship You. Father, help the races of this nation get along not by warring, but by loving each other as You love each of us and realizing that anarchy, accusations, political division, racism, and police defunding come from the enemy. Help me to love and be willing to give up everything for abundant life and Your greater causes. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

  1. Our country is so full of division now. It is hard for me to understand how people lose sight of what is right and just. I think the enemy is alive and well and trying to do the greatest harm to our country. There are so many people praying for our country and I pray that God is listening to our prayers.

    1. No politician speaks about Democrats and Republicans coming together any more. Still I would think the sizable portion of our nation who put up Christmas trees still want our country united. Christians need to unite and let our voices be heard. We need a new Billy Graham to step forward and lead a movement.

  2. The thing is you need to have a code for the web website to understand and checklist your reward in Poker Stars. So you not only depend on your hunches, intuition, and elementary calculation.

    1. Thanks for keeping in touch. I hope you’re doing well tonight. I thought most people gambled for entertainment. I have played poker on occasion, not using money or perhaps penny bets — just for fun. It scares me when people gamble more money than they have, but I know it’s an addiction for some people. Why do you gamble? I prayed for you tonight. God loves you Judi. I hope that you pray to keep Him happy. Feel free to write me anytime. Have a blessed weekend.
