Daily Devotional Luke 12:32-34 – Where is your heart? There you will find your treasures. – Online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 281

Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Luke 12:32-34)

When I was a young Christian, 23 years old, my Church of Christ and Baptist friends told me God would send me to hell if I got a divorce. Mentally abused, I felt hopeless. But I felt more hopeless when I abandoned the God that would send me to hell. I believed the lies the enemy convinced my friends were true. God is pleased to give everyone His kingdom. It’s my passion to tell everyone: God is love, and he wants you to be His child.

Many preachers would have us believe this Scripture says God wants all Christians to be poor. We should sell everything we own and give all our money to their church. If that were true, why did God give Abraham, Job, and others wealth? Because they sought God, not money.

Where is your heart? If it’s hurting because you were abused, join an organization who helps the abused. If your heart is into art or music, give lessons to one who can’t afford them. If your heart is into helping the poor, start a scholarship fund for at-risk children to find Jesus at a Christian school. When we let God use our hearts to help others find Jesus, we’ll find treasure that a thief cannot steal.

Father God, help me use my heart for Your kingdom. Thank you for the many gifts you bless me with because you are the greatest Father. I pray in Jesus’ name, amen.

  1. Our hearts hold all our dearest and most valuable treasures. I am so fortunate to have a heart that is full with love for family, friends, animals, sunrises (like the one that I am looking at now), sunsets, the beauty of the land where I live, and the list can go on and on. Even though I have gone through some of the worst times of my life in the last 2 years, God was with me and helped me through. Jody, when you were going through your hard times, God never abandoned you and I don’t really feel you abandoned him. You are his child and he loves you and he was helping you even though you weren’t asking.

    1. You’re right. God never abandoned me although I totally abandoned Him. God pursued me and finally broke through. I’m glad everything is going well for you now. Enjoy!
