Daily Devotional Luke 11:43 – Woes of the Pharisees – Woe #2: Recognition – Online Bible Study – Bible Study in Easy English – Day 264

“Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the best seat in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces. (Luke 11:43)

Recently one of my family members was plagiarized by a woman who seeks recognition. She applied for awards with his material and won. When the committee realized she stole his work, my family member received the award she sought.

Most of us enjoy receiving praise for a job well done. That’s okay. Seeking praise is only wrong when that praise belongs to another. The Pharisees sought to sit on God’s throne and wanted the recognition that belonged to Jesus. Instead of esteeming God, they esteemed themselves.

We all seek praise and long to hear Jesus say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”  But do we praise others or take up space in the best seat in the synagogue? Perhaps we’re waiting for others to greet us in the marketplace instead of greeting them.

Dearest Heavenly Father, give me Your power to do good works so I can glorify You. Help me gather around my coworkers, friends, and families and compliment them for jobs well done. I pray in Jesus’ precious and Holy name. Amen.

  1. I am so glad that the unjust was corrected for your family member. We should never be afraid or unwilling to praise someone who deserves it. Last night I was with family who I had not seen in a long time. My great nephew and niece were awarded, this year at school, for a job very well done. They wanted me to see the videos. I was so proud of them for being good citizens and people.

  2. Nice post. I used to be checking continuously this weblog and I am inspired!
Extremely useful information specifically the closing phase 🙂 I handle such info a lot.
I was seeking this particular info for a long time. Thank you and best of luck.

    1. Blessings to you. I don’t believe in luck. I am glad you enjoyed the post. I prayed for you and your family. Blessings, Jody
