Daily Devotional Luke 11:14-16 – The worst lie – Online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 253

Jesus was driving out a demon that was mute. When the demon left, the man who had been mute spoke, and the crowd was amazed. But some of them said, “By Beelzebul, the prince of demons, he is driving out demons.” Others tested him by asking for a sign from heaven. (Luke 11:14-16)

In his book, The Biggest Lie in the History of Christianity, Matthew Kelly states that lie: holiness is not possible. Saying that Jesus healed by the prince of demons is a form of that lie. That lie minimizes the Holy Spirit from whom we get holiness, power, encouragement, wisdom, and love. It is the Holy Spirit that unites with our spirits and speaks to us and nudges us, revealing God’s will. That lie makes Christians powerless to change the world in a positive way. Therefore, it is the lie the enemy most wants us to believe.

Kelly says to prove the lie wrong look at a family member or go out in public and choose someone at random. Ask God what he wants you to do for that person. As we learned yesterday, it is best to ask God to give you his Holy Spirit first. Something will pop into your head. Whatever you do for that person is an act of holiness. It will give both you and the other person joy and will make you both want to do an act of holiness for someone else. Christians performing acts of kindness is the best way to destroy Satan’s lies.

When people are present who don’t believe holiness is possible or who want to test your Christianity, amaze them by performing an act of holiness. It’s the first thing Jesus does to prove the enemy’s lie is wrong. He heals a person who couldn’t speak. Everyone was amazed.

Dearest Father in heaven, I ask for your Holy Spirit to perform an act of holiness through me to amaze someone I know who believes the enemy’s lies. Give me Your power to spread Your love and joy to others, changing the world in a positive way, one person at a time. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

  1. I couldn’t agree more. A random act of kindness is an act of holiness. We can all change the world by doing an act of kindness daily. The enemy would like us to succumb to the belief that there is no such thing as an act of holiness.
