Daily Devotional Luke 10:16-20 – How can I defeat the enemy? – Online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 240

“Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.” The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.” He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”  (Luke 10:16-20)

I have the spirit of timidity. Since that spirit is not from God, it is from the enemy. God speaks to me through these verses and tells me I have the authority and His power to rid myself of this spirit if I command it out of me in the name of Jesus. I realize the enemy submits to Jesus, not me. I will command the spirit of timidity from me, in the name of Jesus, today.

When we speak the truth of Jesus and someone rejects us, they reject God. Most often people reject God because the enemy places doubt in their minds. So, this time the apostles, and the sixty disciples who went with them learned to command the enemy in Jesus’ name. They weren’t rejected.

It is only by the power of Jesus’ given to Him by God that followers of Jesus have the ability to overcome all the power of the enemy. What we sometimes get wrong is that demons submit to us. Jesus warns these disciples that Satan fell like lightning because he wanted to be God. We only have Jesus’ power from God when our names are written in heaven.

Father God, I believe in Your Son and follow him. Therefore, my name is written in the book of life and on the door of the mansion you’ve prepared for me in heaven. I praise you and rejoice that I, too, can trample on and command the enemy in Jesus’ name. Satan and demons, in Jesus’ name, I command you to flee my house, me, and my family so nothing will harm us. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

  1. I understand that we have the power to command the enemy in the name of Jesus. When you stop and think about it, it is a lot of power to have. When we moved into our house I felt that it was filled with evil. I was desperate for just one thing to go right. I prayed a lot about it and I cried many tears. Jody, you helped me with the whole process. I finally was able to have the courage to use the power I had all along. I was able to command the enemy out of our house. It was a process and many times I felt very uncertain. It didn’t happen instantly but I find our house is now a home and I feel at peace here. Thank you, Jody, for helping me and supporting me through one of the hardest times in my life. Thank you, God, for the gifts you have given to me.

    1. In the name of Jesus, may God’s peace always rest on you. I am so happy that you finally feel the peace in your home. It is beautiful inside and outside, and I hope you and Drew enjoy many happy years there. Thanks also for your support. That’s what sisters are for! I love you!
