Bible Study Devotional – Day 202 – Commentary Luke 8:45-48

“Who touched me?” Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.” But Jesus said, “Someone touched me: I know that power has gone out from me.” Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.” (Luke 8:45-48)

The website, Touched by the Hand of God, tells of miracles performed by God’s touch. Rod reported God physically touched him, causing tingling from his waist to his head and down his arms. Rod didn’t realize the tingling was God, so he went to a neurologist for an EEG. It showed nothing, so the neurologist ordered a spine MRI. On the edge of the MRI was a dark spot on Rod’s kidney totally unrelated to the tingling. In fact the tingling stopped the day Rod got his EEG. God’s power made Rod aware of his kidney cancer, so he could seek treatment.

Today’s Bible story also tells the miracle of a woman who had cramps and continuous bleeding for twelve years. God’s power healed this woman when she touched Jesus. The Jewish Old Testament proclaimed her unclean, so she lived in isolation and shame. We would expect her to be in bed from depression and pain. But she had tremendous faith and must have asked God for His power to fight shoulder-to-shoulder crowds to catch Jesus and heal her. Many in the crowd touched Jesus, but this bleeding woman is the only one who received His power. She fell at His feet. Mark tells us she touched the hem of His garment, and her faith and Jesus’ power healed her.

Father God, help me have faith strong enough to receive Your powerful healing. Then you can say, “Your faith has healed you. Go in peace.” In Jesus precious name I pray, amen.

  1. I think the power of healing is something we do not see very often. It is a miracle when it happens. I have prayed for healing for my family and friends and they have always succumbed to the disease. A very good friend was just diagnosed with lung cancer. She had symptoms of a stroke and was rushed to the hospital. They found a tumor in her brain, which was metastasized lung cancer. If she had not had the brain tumor, most likely, the lung cancer would have not been diagnosed until it was too late. The brain cancer allowed the cancer to be detected and treated. The Dr. told her he felt it was a God thing. I guess occurrences like these would be considered healings? Or God’s intervention?

    1. Ecclesiastes 3:2 tells us we have a time to be born and a time to die. God’s timing is perfect, and I believe He grants our prayers of healing when He can to show His power. If you google miracle healings, you can read about many. I believe your friend was touched by a miracle of God.

    1. I’m happy for Karen. You’ve indicated she is still recovering, so I will pray for her now.
