Bible Study Devotional – Day 197 – Commentary Luke 8:34-35 –

When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus’ feet, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. (Luke 8:34-35)

In my book, Denial of the Enemy, travelers on a cruise ship were petrified when the enemy sucked them into an underground cave. When God recovered the ship, He sent them on a new course and they were still afraid because they weren’t prepared for a life change. They felt peace when they were fully dressed in God’s armor, sitting at his feet.

The Garasenes weren’t prepared either. They didn’t know about prophets or a Messiah, so they thought Jesus was a magician, an evil person sent by one of their gods. They were afraid of Jesus, the demoniac, and the loss of their livelihood.

In a desperate state, the demoniac wanted freedom from his demons. He was prepared for his Savior to heal him. Saved, fully dressed, and sitting at Jesus feet, he was no longer afraid.

Father, God. Thank you for providing your armor and love, so I can sit at your feet fully dressed. Thank you for Your Spirit connecting with mine, changing my life. Help me realize when I plant Your seeds of love, some will be ready for their Savior and some will not. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen

  1. I ask God to protect me, my family and friends from evil. For a long time in my life I could not think of the Devil or demons. I couldn’t think about evil being inside someone. I wanted to think that nothing like that could exist. Early in our marriage we went to see The Exorcist and it had a very profound effect on me. I had nightmares for a very long time. I just kept telling myself it was all pretend and God would not allow something like that to really happen. It was the only way I could deal with it. It really wasn’t until building this house that I could see evil around me. This house and our builder were full of evil. I am sure there were other times in my life that I was faced with evil and could not acknowledge the evil.

    1. I personally don’t think we should want to surround ourselves with evil, so I never watch horror flicks. But I am one of very few people who didn’t watch it. On the other hand, I have to admit to surrounding myself with evil after my divorce. Like you say, there are times in our lives when we are faced with evil and don’t see it. I didn’t see it at the time because the enemy is very tricky. Your builder is evil but not your house. I detected nothing but beauty when I was there. Keep praying and having faith, Sis, because I don’t think God is finished answering your prayers.

  2. I love your comments, Jody. I agree totally about surrounding yourself with evil. I do not watch horror films either, as a rule. I will NEVER watch another movie that involves the devil in any shape or form. Thank you for reminding me to be patient and have faith. I hope you are right about God is not finished answering my prayers.

    1. Thanks. We can all use more patience and faith. I am praying for you, please pray for me, too! I’m pretty certain God isn’t finished answering your prayers. He will let you know why you went through what you did. Don’t give up. Keep praying for answers.
