For Jesus had commanded the impure spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places. Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” “Legion,” he replied, because many demons had gone into him. And they begged Jesus repeatedly not to order them to go into the Abyss. (Luke 8:29-31)
I have two children with ADHD, one worse than the other. Repeatedly pounding the lid closed, that child couldn’t sit at a school desk. The problems increased. Although accused of being a bad mother by those who had easy kids, I prayed for, fought for, and loved my children. They grew up into loving, conscientious adults.
Children are easy targets for demons. Most likely this man was attacked by the enemy as a child. Unable to control the demon, the enemy grew into a “Legion,” thousands of warriors. These demons asked Jesus not to send them to the Abyss, a place where demons are guarded deep in the earth. Jesus commanded them to come out of the man, yet they remained inside him. The enemy, once implanted, is difficult to extract.
The good news is Jesus tells us: “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” (Luke 10:19-20)
Father God, thank you for writing my name in heaven. I pray in Jesus name to keep the enemy out of my life, the lives of my family, and the lives of children whose parents do not pray for them. Amen.
My child had problems of a different nature, but I had to fight very hard for her at school and for her life. It was a difficult time. Sometimes I felt like I handled the problems well and sometimes I did not handle them well. Thankfully, she had Doctors and therapists that cared for her too. She has grown into an adult who is caring. I pray a lot for her. She has medications that help her function and a lot of years learning coping skills in therapy. I do think that the enemy entered her life when she was a teenager, because she was so weak and could not fight. I fought and prayed for her. I still pray for her health.
You have an amazing daughter and you’ve been a great mother. I pray for her too! We have both had to fight for our children, and it is amazing they have all grown up so well. Thanks be to God!
