Bible Study Devotional – Day 160 – Commentary Luke 6:17-19 – How powerful is God?

He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coastal region around Tyre and Sodon, who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by impure spirits were cured, and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all. (Luke 6:17-19)

When my oldest was in middle school we went to a Christian Rock concert. I was comfortable until the music began and everyone cheered, danced, and flooded the stage area as if we were at a Grateful Dead concert. It was rowdy, and I quickly became claustrophobic.

Jesus isn’t on a stage. Picture Him standing on a level place lower than the huge crowd standing on the rolling hills or mountains surrounding him so everyone can see. He offers healing, more desirable than the best of music. Healing power explodes from Jesus, and the crowd swarms Him. He restores humans from physical and mental ailments and then restores peace so everyone can hear Him preach the Sermon on the Mount.

Dearest wonderful Father, send Your Holy Spirit to touch me with Your power to heal me mentally and physically, ridding me of ideas the enemy puts in my head. Snatch the enemy from my body and prepare me to hear Your message from the Sermon on the Mount.

  1. I look at the picture you posted and I think that large crowd of people would not be acceptable today. I am so sure that God will take care of us as we go through this uncharted territory. He is so powerful and there are millions of people praying about the pandemic. Will he perform a miracle and cure the sick and give the doctors the knowledge to combat this? Why is he allowing this to happen? Some people think that this is the end of the world and Jesus will come back. God is so powerful he could stop all of this and I know people are praying for that. I am praying that all of my family and friends stay healthy and safe. I am praying for those that are sick. I am praying that God gives the Doctors the knowledge to treat this and develop a vaccine. I am praying that God gives us ability to help when we can.

    1. Jesus will come back some day. He hasn’t let me in on that secret. I am praying that the State of Florida lets my husband work remotely from home and, of course, for everyone’s health — especially our family, my friends, healthcare workers, and the homeless. The homeless were really on my heart today. Maybe God feels we need to be closer to our families and enjoy more family time. He has some purpose in all this.
