All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” they asked. Jesus said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to me: ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ And you will tell me, ‘Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.’ Truly I tell you,” he continued, “no prophet is accepted in his hometown.”
My husband has never read my blog, and my children rarely do. Perhaps they would rather study God’s word with someone else, perhaps they don’t have time, but I wish they would seek my heart. When I’m gone, they’ll read my words because it’s all they’ll have left of me.
Jesus spoke the gracious words of God. As he was speaking, they were fascinated with his sermon. But then, they remembered him as Joseph’s son and a carpenter. These labels had nothing to do with his heart. Mark 6:3 says, “they took offense at Him.” Jesus sensed their lack of faith and knew they would put him to the test, and he still wouldn’t be accepted in his hometown. If they would have sought his heart, they would have known who he was.
Heavenly Father, please help to seek the hearts of friends, family, and neighbors and not label them.
I guess that the friends and family members of Jesus knew his humble beginnings and because of that it was hard to envision Jesus as the Messiah, the Lord, the Savior. Think about growing up on Montevista and knowing all the kids and parents. I would have had a hard time believing that Beverly was the Messiah! I am not sure that this happens because we hold someone to a higher standard though. This is a bit confusing to me!!
You’re right again, Sis. I appreciate your feedback and changed my post. I’m sure part of it was because he was from humble beginnings but also they knew he was better than they were and were afraid to be his friend and seek out his heart. Whatever the reason if they would have known Jesus’ heart, they would have known he was the Messiah. You and Beverly were spirited. You know each other’s hearts and are still friends today. I love you, Sis, and appreciate your seeking my heart as I seek yours.
