Daily Devotional Acts 18:9-11 – What do you say to God when you’re scared? – Free online Bible Study – Commentary in easy English – Day 612

One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: “Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city.” So Paul stayed in Corinth for a year and a half, teaching them the word of God. (Acts 18:9-11)

When the King of Aram was at war with Israel, the prophet Elisha told the King of Israel where the Aram army was located. The King of Aram retaliated and his army surrounded Elisha and his assistant.

Elisha’s assistant was scared so Elisha said, “Do not be afraid. Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. (2 Kings 6:16-17)

Paul was also afraid. He had been beaten, jailed, and left for dead. Who would want to go through that again? God told Elisha and us. “Do not be afraid…for I am with you and no one is going to…harm you, because I have many people to protect you.”

If you’re afraid or nervous, tell God. He wants you to depend on Him when you’re troubled. He’ll send people or angels, give you His power through the Holy Spirit, and change circumstances to get you through your difficulties. He blinded the Aram army so they couldn’t kill Elisha. When you ask, God will help you.

Father, I praise You for Your promise to protect me. Lord, I’m afraid that ___________. Thank you for helping me. I know I can depend on you. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

Note: before I prayed that prayer I thought of two things that made me nervous. While praying it I thought of nine more. God wants to help us solve our problems.

  1. This is most definitely something I need to continue to work on. I have been working on it, but I need to get better. This is the time of year that I have to go head to head with the prescription insurance. It causes me great anxiety and makes me so nervous. This year I started praying about it a few days before I made the first phone call. Sometimes this process takes way more patience than I think that I have. I have started, but it is a long way to get to the end. I am continuing to pray that it goes well and that I can remain calm and anxiety free.

I like your prayer a lot and just used it and will continue too during times of stress. Love you, Sis!

    1. Glad you’re back with me. I missed you for a few days. I’m glad you are praying about things that make you nervous. It helps so much! God is good! There’s always something that causes stress. I love you. Blessings, Jody
